01 Detailed description

Birds & Clouds is a table sushi set, designed by Stefano Giovannoni and consisting of three cloud shaped elements. The set is made of fine bone china, and the pieces increase in size: the smallest cloud is used as a chopstick holder, the medium sized one as a saucer for soy sauce, and the biggest is a large plate. These three clouds stand out against the blue sky of the place mat, which is made of washable silk. Dark chopsticks, made of thermosetting material, complete the set. Birds & Clouds is part of the OrienTales project, with which we are continuing our successful collaboration with the National Palace Museum of Taiwan. The objective of this second collection is to improve the "quality", both by introducing new formal themes, and by working with a wider range of materials (fine bone and bakelite) and more detailed decorations.
The National Palace Museum of Taiwan can be regarded as the Louvre of the East due to the richness and variety of its collections of antiques, paintings and calligraphies, objects, books and documents. Alessi and the NPM of Taiwan Stefano Giovannoni to devise and design a kind of mascot for the new Museum of the XXI century. This gave birth to the families "Mr Chin" in 2007 and "OrienTales" : a series of small characters each depicting a domestic role. These extraordinary artistic collections has allowed Stefano's imagination to run wild, pushing him to measure himself against and apply his contemporary interpretation to the millenniaold tradition of Chinese applied arts.
