Flora Floor lamp by Fontana Arte

Flora, designed by the London-based architecture and design firm Future Systems, is an organic interpretation of the traditional arch floor lamp. The lightness of the lamp's polished aluminum body is made possible by the latest hydroforming technology used for bicycles and racing equipment. An additional component frees the lamp from the base, allowing it to be installed on any horizontal surface. A diffuser in opal blown glass produces a soft light source. The diffuser is made out of blown white glass and "sensitive touch control" dimmers the halogen light.

The Italian lighting and furniture company was founded in 1932 by Gio Ponti and has produced a number of products including lighting, furniture and tabletop items. Ponti was a key figure in the realization of artistic stained-glass windows, which can still be found in churches and cathedrals across the world, when he realized the enormous potential of putting advanced glass manufacturing into daily use. The exhibition Light is Movement for Milan’s furniture fair reflected magnificently the drive and determination of what the Fontana Arte represents in the 21^st century as a perfect mix of iconic designers like the Castiglioni brothers or Renzo Piano giving headway to renown contemporary designers like Laurinda Spear from Arquitectonica Studio or French architect Dominique Perrault.
