Megaptera Tray - 45 x 26 cm by Alessi

The tray, container, centerpiece hybrid is created by pushing a single sheet of mirror polished steel though a pressing technique specifically developed by alessi for this product. the rippling of the sheet increases the surface area and volume of the platter, similar to the way in which megaptera whales do when feeding, thus its name. the grooves also create friction as well as increase the structural rigidity without the need for more material.

Alessi Italian manufacturing soared to new heights in the 20^th century and one company is synonymous with this lofty ascent.
