The Plato family includes three original and iconic objects designed by Jeff Miller between 2005 and 2010. The designer chose the most classical materials to sculpt modern and plastic forms that are at once light and grounded, contemporary and yet eternal. Always functional. Plato is a stool and a side-table, a useful object to support and contain, carved from a single solid piece of Carrara marble or fabricated with solid ash wood. It is the first-born of the family, the essence of the idea.
Platone is Plato's younger and larger brother. As opposed to Plato it chooses only the warmth and familiarity of wood as its material language but through its extended length it offers new functions: bench, coffee-table, stackable shelf. Plato and Platone can be combined and stacked in a striking juxtaposition of marble and wood.
Plato Alto completes the family with a new vertical object: a small column carved from a single piece of black Marquina marble. It was designed specifically to stand next to an armchair or sofa, a rich, elegant and useful presence.
Plato (2006) : White Carrara marble sidetable, sculpted from a solid block, or solid natural or moka ash wood, with bottom surface made of natural red wool felt. Plato can also be used as a stool or a stackable container.
Platone (2009) : Multi-functional piece that can be used as a bench, sidetable, stackable container. Platone is made of solid natural or moka ash wood with bottom pad made of natural redwool felt. Platone can be combined with Plato in modular compositions.
Plato Alto (2010) : Vertical sidetable-container in nero marquina, carved from a single piece of black marble with bottom pad made of natural black wool felt. Plato Alto completes the family of multifunctional accessories that includes Plato and Platone.
