The Staatliches Bauhaus is a famous German art school, founded in 1919 in Weimar (Germany). Primarily known for its achievements in architecture, it also had a strong influence in many areas: design, graphic design, painting, photography, dance. This precursory movement emerged as one of the primary mythical figures of modernism in design and architecture. To celebrate the centenary of the foundation of Bauhaus, Alessi is reissuing three licensed projects from the Bauhaus Archiv in Berlin. These creations bear witness to the production of one of the laboratories of applied arts with which Alessi shares the most affinity. The "100 Years of Bauhaus" collection honours the memory of the immense historical, artistic and cultural heritage that we owe to this avant-garde movement. The ''100 Years of Bauhaus'' collection includes two ashtrays and a coffee/tea service designed in the 1920s by the German artist Marianne Brandt (1893-1983), one of the representatives of Bauhaus. A painter, photographer and designer, Marianne Brandt is best known for her creations made at the Bauhaus metal workshop. Her work is based on the use of simple geometric shapes suitable for mass production and is inspired by cubism, De Stijl or constructivism. Marianne Brandt has had a lasting influence, although she remains relatively unknown. Some of her creations are part of the collections of major museums (MoMA).
