"Fabrique" is a collection, composed of two pieces forming a small factory that can be used as a candlestick and/or as a bookend. This sculptural object is auto-produced using two traditional, terracotta bricks, which are hand-moulded and sculpted. This creation is produced in the Æquo studio in Douai: local, conscientious and reasoned production. Each brick is unique, and designers use them as they are, with their flaws, their lumps and bumps, their manufacturing marks: with their history."Fabrique" celebrates the exceptional industrial heritage of the city of Roubaix, "the City of a Thousand Chimneys". Brick is a material which has particularly shaped the Northern landscapes. Enamoured with the material and the land, Æquo's designers decided to showcase it: brick steps out of its reputation as a construction material to become a creative object.Just like Roubaix, "Fabrique" showcases the culture and will continue to shine for centuries to come. In true artwork fashion, Fabrique is protected in a wooden case. Brick therefore takes on a prestigious dimension, and is welcomed into the interior of homes.A small town with 6000 inhabitants, a century ago, made up of sparse hamlets where the monotone voice of the hand-weaving trade, a small town adopting progress from its revelation, its vulgarisation, and unshakably following its path onwards and against all, despite the betrayals of nature, without water, without canals, and now a huge city with 200,000 inhabitants, with its immediate suburbs, Roubaix is more than confident in its strength." Eugène Motte, Mayor of Roubaix (Extract from "Nord Illustré", 1st April, 1911)
