Description

The FDC1 armchair is a rare and unique piece. Designed in the 50s by Flavio de Carvalho, this very graphical almost tribal armchair is recognised today as one of the most wonderful legacies of this artist that Le Corbusier qualified as a "romantic revolutionary". Flavio de Carvalho, a man with multiple talents, got involved, from the 30s, and always in a provocative way, with different artistic fields and especially in the areas of design and architecture. His creative process in design and architecture was mainly guided by the imagination in terms of new ways of thinking and living that appeared in the 30s in Brazil. For this man, recognised today as one of the precursors of the modernist movement in architecture, interior design and even the architecture of a building were on the same level, one not able to exist without the other. It was from this idea that he would design the FDC1 armchair, in the 50s to furnish one of his most representative creations: the Capuava hacienda. The design of this armchair impresses due to its graphical and sculptural look. A tribal mask? An allusion to sado-masochism? This remarkable creation was very avant-garde at the time and remains very modern. Out of a concern for authenticity, the full grain leather has not undergone any surface treatment. This leather may have slight scars or natural marks, a guarantee of its high quality.
