The Franco-Italian duo Moustache bring us a personal, unexpected piece… Their Replica collection reproduces exceptional, rare or particularly interesting old pieces, making them visible and accessible again. The first two items are a pair of Japanese bronze pencil boxes dating from the 18th century. These pencil boxes were offered to Stéphane Arriubergé from Moustache by the Italian painter Léonor Fini (1908-1996). The original bronze pieces were scanned in 3D to make perfect ceramic replicas using a mould produced with a multi-axis CNC milling machine. The Replica 1 model is decorated with delicate relief patterns on the theme of flora and fauna. Bristling with details, this romantic landscape typical of Japanese art depicts a monkey and a young deer moving around in a forest. With the Replica collection, the Moustache duo reinterpret the decorative arts, materials and traditional skills. They transform a unique object, the fruit of ancestral artisanal know-how, into a reproducible item, produced in series using cutting-edge technology. This object exudes a poetry that challenges our emotions and arouses poetic feelings. Replica 1 and Replica 2 can be used as a pencil box or trinket bowl.
