Art and craft trend... Raw forms and a return to roots for this fascinating anthropomorphic table, located at the boundary between contemporary art and industrial design. In her workshop in Oslo, the Norwegian artist, Anna Maria Øfstedal Eng, creates sculptural pieces that she models out of local materials: birch, clay, etc. "My pieces are developed intuitively and experimentally, in an aesthetic interaction between hand and machine. Inspired by nature, the forms and shapes meet one another in new interpretations." For Ferm Living, she created Rotben: a side table which can also serves as a stool, made from 100% recycled cast aluminium. This piece is made from a prototype hand moulded by Anna Maria Øfstedal Eng. Far from the usual straight lines and codes, the irregular organic shapes seem to be kneaded in the ground. Primary and primitive, these bumpy, wavy and imperfect forms draw the eye. Wild and untamed, this little table embodies an organic sensitivity and encourages creative feelings. It’s the grain of the material, its roughness, its irregularities, all its small defects that give it character. It can be used both inside and outdoors.
