"A game of chance... To make the Tombola vase, designer Mendel Heit has focused on a process integrating a lot of chance. He's used building blocks in different shapes, combined in a random order to produce this glass vase's unique surface. The hand-blown glass is patterned with embossed asymmetrical forms, giving it an organic aspect. The embossed design in coloured glass plays on light and shadow. Mendel Heit explains: "A strong inspiration source was the modular building blocks, like LEGO bricks, but also literature from the French Group OULIPO, where mathematics meets words to create art. My greatest inspiration came from observing artisans, such as glass-blowers and ceramists, who channel the unique nature of craftsmanship into serial production". Designer Mendel Heit is particularly fascinated by the integration of new manufacturing technologies into existing trades. For Mendel Heit, design is a space for endless creation. As technology progresses and culture evolves, he continues to find new challenges and opportunities to explore."
