David Derksen

"To create objects is to play with the forces of Nature on a human scale. "This phrase sums up the approach of David Derksen, a Dutch designer fascinated by the beauty of materials and their Adapter. Inspired by the natural sciences, he sublimates their characteristics in creations where technique and aesthetics meet.

After graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2009, and TU Delft in 2011 with a Master's degree in Industrial Design, Derksen founded his studio in Rotterdam. Between industrial design and experimental projects, he pushes the limits of materials to reveal their potential. His works, presented annually at Milan's Salone del Mobile since 2011, combine innovation and poetry.

Collaborating with international brands and galleries, in 2015 he received a nomination for the Young Designer Award at the Dutch Design Awards. In 2019, he becomes Artistic Director of WL Ceramics, then launches [ARRAY], his lighting collection, in 2021. The following year, he co-founded Atelier Artiforte, a Dutch lighting brand.

Whether teaching at the Royal Academy of Art or designing objects, Derksen relentlessly explores the dialogue between materials, technology and design. His creations, elegant and durable, reflect a quest for balance between innovation and simplicity, revealing all the poetry of materials.
