An iconic coffee table with a Marimekko motif, reissued for Artek's 90th anniversary.
Designed in 1933 by Alvar Aalto, the 90D Coffee table is one of the Finnish master's earliest works. A pioneer of organic modernism, Aalto sought to develop a sensitive, natural alternative to the rigid functionalism of his time. On the occasion of Artek's 90th anniversary, this emblematic model is adorned with a strong motif from Nordic textile history: Seireeni, imagined in 1964 by Maija Isola for Marimekko. Inspired by the undulations of the Navy observed during a stay in Greece, this design also evokes the hypnotic song of mythological mermaids. With its moving lines and poetic contrasts, this classic piece of Scandinavian furniture has a contemporary, vibrant feel.
Structural innovation by Aalto
The 90D embodies one of the greatest structural innovations of the 20th century: the L-shaped Base, perfected in 1927 by Alvar Aalto and cabinetmaker Otto Korhonen. This revolutionary technique of bending Solid wood, made possible by inserting veneers into vertical incisions, allows the material to be bent without breaking. Attached directly to the underside of the Tray, the Base, legs eliminate the need for an intermediate structure, giving the whole unit a lighter, more stable and visually elegant silhouette. This patented process is the foundation of ARTEK's identity and continues to shape the aesthetics of contemporary furniture.
Mobile, elegant and highly functional
With its well-balanced dimensions (Ø 48 x H 44 cm), the 90D Coffee table meets the needs of modern interiors: a graphic sofa end, an end table in a bedroom, or a duo in a gigogne version in a living room. Its lightness and maneuverability make it an agile piece, designed for living spaces. Handcrafted in Turku from local FSC-certified wood, it embodies the ethical commitment and longevity of Finnish production. Each Riding toy carries a story, and is designed to span generations.
An icon of Scandinavian design, between poetry and rigor
Minimalist in its lines, yet expressive in its details, the 90D explores the contrasts dear to Nordic design: functional purity, warmth of Wood, softness of pattern. The undulating Seireeni pattern, applied to a natural Birch veneer, catches the light, draws the eye and interacts with the materials: raw linen, matt ceramics, felt or full grain leather. Perfectly at home in a wabi-sabi décor, a modernist interior or a contemporary family home, this limited edition brings together two major figures of Finnish design in a vibrant tribute to creation, craftsmanship and the poetry of use.
