The A.I. family expands with the arrival of the High stool, which focuses on comfort thanks to a wide, welcoming seat.
The future is taking shape at Kartell... Pioneer and visionary, renowned designer Philippe Starck continues to innovate: he has created the first chair designed by artificial intelligence. To design it, Starck called on Autodesk, an American company specializing in 3D design software.
To design the A.I (Artificial Intelligence) Chair, Philippe Starck, Autodesk and Kartell asked Dreamcatcher (the generative design software developed by Autodesk) a single crucial question: "Can you rest our bodies using a minimum of matter and energy? Without culture, without memories, without influence, the software answered only with intelligence, its "artificial" intelligence.
A.I. is the first chair to be designed outside our brains, outside our habitual ways of thinking.
Human creative thought and artificial intelligence have thus merged to design a chair totally elaborated by an algorithm that respects the original requirements: to use as little material and energy as possible to create a seat that is comfortable, solid and in keeping with the aesthetic canons of the Kartell collections.
The A.I Chair is the fruit of a joint effort between artificial intelligence and human intelligence, defined by Starck himself as "Natural Intelligence".
Autodesk has said that the process of designing with artificial intelligence software is reminiscent of "a child learning". Starck describes the process as very similar to a conversation between two human beings.
Why do all chairs look the same? How can I create a chair that is structurally different? At some point, I needed to open a new Door...'' explains Philippe Starck about the genesis of the A.I chair project.
This collaboration between human and artificial intelligence has demonstrated that artificial intelligence can support a designer's work by calculating the optimum response to an idea for a shape.
The A .I chair is a symbol of designer Philippe Starck's experimental approach to design and his commitment to the environment.
From elsewhere, a new world is opening up to us. An unlimited world...'' concluded Starck. There's no doubt that the A.I Chair marks a turning point for the future of design.
