Description
The BFK Armchair - also known as the AA or Butterfly armchair - was designed in 1938 by Catalan architect Antoni Bonet and Argentinian designers Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy. Former collaborators of Le Corbusier, the trio drew their inspiration from the Moderne movement: extreme sobriety, geometric and functional lines, use of Steel. This absolutely simple chair responds to the social and artistic challenges of its time. It features a sleek Steel wire frame, covered by a single piece of Leather. The seat becomes the perfect synthesis of their ideas. A linear yet organic silhouette, influenced by the Surrealist school, combined with the use of Natural and industrial materials, allowing mass production within everyone's reach.
Success was immediate and international. In 1940, the BFK armchair won two design prizes at the Artistes Décorateurs show in Buenos Aires, and was subsequently added to the permanent collection of MoMA in New York. The BKF Armchair is produced in numerous series, sometimes illegally. It became one of the most copied chairs in the world, and remains an icon of modern design to this day.
Charles Bernard, founder of the Airborne publishing house, produced the legendary armchair in 1951 under the name AA© for the French and European markets.
The original leather covers were followed by new fabrics with the famous central white stitching that would become the brand's emblem: linen, cotton and technical fabrics such as batyline, offering a range with a wide variety of colors and a resistance adapted to outdoor use. To date, over 61 different models are available for the AA© Armchair!
The AA© cover is removable, so you can buy interchangeable covers separately to change the look of your Armchair in the blink of an eye! The covers change with the seasons, tastes and trends, which contributes greatly to the attachment and notoriety of this Armchair.
