Arne Jacobsen (1902 - 1971) was a world-famous Danish modernist architect.
Originally designed by Arne Jacobsen for St. Catherine's College, Oxford, the AJ Oxford Lamp reflects the building's modernist style, which contrasts with the classical architecture of the rest of Oxford University. Inaugurated in 1963, St Catherine's College is both Arne Jacobsen's least-known and largest project to date. The AJ Oxford lamp was originally designed to light the college's impressive dining room, which housed long rows of Oak tables and seated 350 people. The Lamp still lights St Catherine's College today.
The AJ Oxford Table lamp features a slender base, similar to those of the iconic AJ lamp collection, which blends harmoniously into the circular base. Its graphic style and monochromatic color palette make the AJ Oxford Table lamp a timeless element that blends perfectly into any interior.
A closer look at AJ Oxford reveals the small details. The brass screw that holds the Lampshade in place, for example, or the internal wiring in the elegant Lampe Base, legs.
To suit all types of space, it comes in several versions: with or without a metal top shade, and with two different heights. The smaller height (H 28 cm), ideal for small spaces, is perfectly at home on a shelf or windowsill. The larger version (H 41 cm) is also available with a rod attachment (to be fixed directly to the top of your Desk or Table), in homage to Arne Jacobsen's original design which featured this type of attachment.
