Archeo, the sculptural end table designed by Jaime Hayón
With Archeo, Jaime Hayón blurs the lines between furniture and sculpture. Designed for Magis in 2026, this collection of designer end tables stands out for its deliberately irregular geometry and forms that appear to have been shaped by time. Made from rotomolded polythene, the pieces feature a textured surface with a mineral-like appearance and come in a color palette inspired by earth, clay, and rock. Versatile, the Archeo end table can also be used as a stool, both indoors and outdoors.
A sculpture from another era
Archeo draws its inspiration from the world of archaeology. Its asymmetrical shapes and shifting surfaces evoke ancient objects that seem to have been slowly eroded before resurfacing. Depending on the viewing angle, the piece reveals a new facet and plays with the perception of its volume. Jaime Hayón thus seeks to explore the beauty of imperfection and to imbue the object with a soul shaped by time.
The choice of roto-moulded polyhene allows for this great freedom of form. The material visually replicates the depth and irregularities of a mineral surface while enabling complex geometries. Slight variations, marks, or irregularities are an integral part of the product’s aesthetic and should not be considered defects.
Jaime Hayón, an International Designer
Born in Madrid in 1974, Jaime Hayón is one of the most renowned Spanish designers of his generation. His work blends art, Decoration, craftsmanship, and industrial design. He collaborates with major international brands and manufacturers, including Fritz Hansen, Magis, BD Barcelona, Moooi, Swarovski, and Baccarat. *Time* has named him one of the 100 most influential designers of his time, while *Wallpaper* has also ranked him among the most influential figures in design.
With Archeo, the designer continues this highly personal approach in which functional objects take on an almost narrative dimension. Here, every curve, indentation, or irregularity seems to tell a different story.
Can the Archeo end table also be used as a stool?
Yes, Archeo is a versatile end table that can also be used as a stool. Placed next to a sofa or armchair, it holds small everyday objects while adding a sculptural touch to the decoration. It can also serve as an occasional seat or be displayed on its own, like a true work of art. This dual function allows you to adapt its use according to your desires and needs.
Can the Archeo end table be left outside?
Yes, Archeo is designed for both indoor and outdoor use. It can complement a living room, bedroom, or entryway, but it also fits perfectly on a patio. This dual purpose enhances its versatility and allows the same sculptural aesthetic to flow seamlessly from indoors to outdoors.
What color should I choose for the Archeo end table?
The color palette draws direct inspiration from natural materials and mineral landscapes. Stone grey highlights the sculptural quality of the surface, while Terracotta Orange adds a sunny tone. Clay brown creates a deeper presence, Porphyry Red gives the piece a more assertive look, and Natural Green introduces an organic touch. Each shade reinforces the connection between the collection and the world of Earth, rock, and erosion.
How do you care for the Archeo end table?
A soft, dry or damp cloth is sufficient for routine care. If necessary, Magis recommends a Neutral soap diluted in water. Avoid abrasive sponges, acidic products, solvents, and cleaners containing ammonia. It is also not recommended to place hot objects on the piece, climb on it, or use it as a Stepladder.
Halfway between furniture and sculpture, the Archeo end table brings a unique presence to any space. Its mineral-like texture, irregular contours, and earth-inspired color palette make it a piece that is as expressive as it is functional, perfectly embodying Jaime Hayón’s imaginative world.
