The radical purity of Enzo Mari, reissued by Alessi
Designed in 1961 by the illustrious Enzo Mari, the Arran Tray is an iconic piece of Italian design, now reissued by Alessi. This masterpiece of industrial aesthetics follows in the footsteps of the Putrella Centrepiece (1957), a manifesto of the raw, functional design so dear to Mari. Its sculptural minimalism, exalted by the cold-forming of polished stainless steel, perfectly embodies the uncompromising approach of its creator.
Visionary, timeless and functional design
Enzo Mari (1932-2020), one of the most influential figures of twentieth-century design, was much more than a designer: a theorist, committed thinker and winner of five Compasso d'Oro awards, he advocated a design where form flowed rigorously from function. The Arran Tray, with its clean lines and monolithic construction, illustrates this quest for structural and material perfection. Reissued in 2025 as part of Alessi's Archivio collection, it testifies to the brand's determination to preserve and revive the icons of industrial design.
A bold, contemporary re-edition
While the original version in Polished stainless steel remains faithful to Mari's spirit, this re-edition introduces two new iridescent finishes, playing on shades of green and purple. These chromatic variations, with their light-changing reflections, symbolize the passage of time and our renewed appreciation of this major work. Elegant, timeless and sculptural, the Arran Tray naturally finds its place in a contemporary interior, whether used as a utilitarian object or a strong decorative piece.
