Carmen Hartô Pendant Light, Ø 90 cm—a large, luminous pleated design

With its generous 90 cm diameter, the Carmen Hartô pendant lamp unfurls its textile canopy into the space with a spectacular presence, without ever appearing bulky. Its thin, pleated disc is arranged around a central light source, evoking the movement of a ballerina’s tutu. Designed by Pauline Capdo and Luis Bellenger, Carmen was born out of experiments with textiles and pleats. In this Terracotta version, its warm hue accentuates the texture and gives the light fixture a particularly expressive personality.

A large format that brings the Textile to life

The 90-cm diameter gives Carmen a truly architectural presence. Despite its size, its profile—just 3.2 cm thick—retains a sense of lightness. The pleats radiate from the central disc, creating a graphic rhythm that shifts depending on the viewer’s perspective.

Once lit, the light highlights the variations in the Textile’s thickness and reveals a succession of shadows and Transparent areas. The pleats then gain depth and seem to come to life. This exploration of light is at the heart of Pauline Capdo and Luis Bellenger’s creative process, whose intuitive approach pays particular attention to the effects produced by materials and volumes.

Where should you hang a large 90-cm pendant light?

The Carmen pendant light (Ø 90 cm ) is particularly well-suited for spaces large enough to accommodate a large-scale light fixture. It fits naturally above a dining table, in a spacious living room, or in the center of a roomy bedroom.

Its very horizontal design allows it to dominate the visual field while remaining compact in height. Its Textile cable, adjustable up to 300 cm, also offers great flexibility for adapting the pendant to the ceiling height and the room’s layout.

Which size should you choose: Carmen Ø 50 cm or Ø 90 cm?

The Ø 90 cm version is best for creating a stronger visual impact or complementing large-scale furniture. It’s particularly well-suited above a dining table or in a room with generous dimensions.

The Carmen Ø 50 cm has a more understated presence and blends more easily into smaller rooms. At 90 cm, the Medium version takes on a more prominent role as a centerpiece and structures the space with its broad silhouette.

What kind of light does the Carmen Medium pendant emit?

The Carmen Medium emits a warm light of 2700 K with a Flux of 700 lumens. Its integrated LED strip has a power rating of 12 W. The light source is built-in and cannot be replaced.

The pendant is also dimmable. It is compatible with 0–10 V systems and Triac phase cut, allowing you to adjust the light intensity to suit the intended use and desired atmosphere.

Does the Carmen Ø 90 cm pendant light require assembly?

Yes. The shade must be snapped onto the base of the light fixture before installation. Assembly instructions are provided, and the Ceiling rose is included.
