Carmen Hartô Wall light: A luminous pleated design inspired by movement

With a diameter of 50 cm,the Carmen Hartô wall light does more than just illuminate the wall—it transforms it. Its large pleated fabric disc unfolds around a central light source, creating a graphic silhouette that evokes, in turn, a sun, a fan, or a dancer’s skirt. In this Terracotta version, its warm color further accentuates its decorative character. The fixture combines a 100% Polyester fabric laminated with a PVC coating with a central disc made of matt lacquered metal and an acrylic diffuser.

Light set in motion by the Textile

Carmen was born out of experiments with Textile and pleating. Here, Pauline Capdo and Luis Bellenger treat light as a material in its own right. The LED strip is housed inside the central disc. As it passes through and along the pleats, the light encounters different thicknesses of fabric and creates a particularly lively play of shadows. The radial texture thus adds rhythm to the surface of the wall light, even when it is off, and gains depth when it is lit.

The terracotta finish emphasizes this warm quality. In the photo, the central disc and the pleats form an almost monochromatic ensemble, enlivened by the deeper shadows that take shape in the folds of the Textile. The 50-cm circular design gives it enough presence to serve as a true decorative wall feature.

Where should you install a 50-cm Carmen wall light?

With its 50 cm diameter and depth limited to 7 cm, Carmen is particularly well-suited for spaces where you want to combine lighting with wall decoration. In a bedroom, it can be placed near the bed to add a graphic touch without cluttering a bedside table. It can also serve as a focal point in a living room, entryway, or sufficiently wide hallway. It is intended for indoor use only and should be installed in dry areas.

Do I need to install a wall outlet?

No, Carmen offers two installation options. It can be connected directly to a wall outlet for a very clean, streamlined look. It can also be plugged into an outlet using the included 190 cm cable with a switch. This dual installation option makes it easier to integrate into a room, especially when no electrical outlet has been specifically provided at its intended location.

What kind of light does the Carmen wall light emit?

Carmen emits a warm light of 2700 K with a flux of 580 lumens. Its light source is an integrated 7.8 W LED strip, rated for a lifespan of 35,000 hours. The fixture is also dimmable, allowing you to adjust the light intensity depending on the time of day and the desired atmosphere. The LED light source can be replaced by a qualified professional.
