Serax Carte Blanche Vase: A Sketch Brought to Life
With the Carte Blanche vase, Annebet Philips transforms a spontaneous prototype into a true decorative object. The designer begins by creating her shapes from folded and cut cardboard, then Serax transposes them into China without erasing their irregularities. Folds, facets, and edges remain visible, like traces of the creative process.
Available in three sizes—Small (Ø 5.8 × H 8.5 cm), Medium (Ø 6.3 × H 12 cm), and Large (Ø 4.8 × H 13.8 cm)—these mini vases stand out for their complementary silhouettes. The largest is also the narrowest, giving it a particularly slender appearance.
A Three-Dimensional Design
The black outlines, hand-painted and deliberately irregular, follow the various facets of China. They reinforce the impression of an object drawn freehand, as if a sketch had suddenly taken on volume. This playful, almost cartoon-like style gives the Carte Blanche collection its highly recognizable graphic identity.
What flowers should you put in Carte Blanche vases?
Their small size is best suited for a few stems, a single flower, or a slender branch rather than a voluminous bouquet. They can also be displayed on their own, like small decorative sculptures.
Which Carte Blanche vase size should you choose?
The Small size, H 8.5 cm, works perfectly for a short-stemmed flower or as a small decorative accent. The Medium size, 12 cm tall, offers a more prominent presence, while the Large size, 13.8 cm tall, features a taller, slimmer silhouette. When grouped together, the three models create a rhythmic ensemble that beautifully highlights their differing proportions.
How to style the Carte Blanche vases?
These porcelain vases can be lined up on a Console table, grouped together on a table, or paired with candle sticks from the same collection. The contrast between the white China and the black lines creates a striking graphic composition, even without flowers.
With Carte Blanche, Annebet Philips gives the vase the look of a drawing straight off the page. An object brimming with spontaneity that adds a graphic and slightly offbeat touch to any interior.
