Alessi Delight Baubles: Eight Designs to Reinvent the Fir-tree
With the Delight Christmas baubles, Nika Zupanc has designed a festive collection for Alessi where tradition meets a very contemporary aesthetic. Each bauble measures Ø 9 cm and comes in eight different designs. The collection is available in green and red, two color palettes designed to be used separately or mixed together on the tree. Stripes, polka dots, stars, geometric shapes, and stylized patterns come together to create a deliberately eclectic ensemble. Crafted from mouth blown glass and adorned with a gold cord, they lend the fir-tree a more sophisticated look while retaining the visual joy inherent in Christmas decorations.
Nika Zupanc transforms the fir-tree into a graphic composition
The Delight collection is the result of a collaboration between Alessi and Slovenian designer Nika Zupanc. It draws on classic holiday symbols—including the Fir-tree, the star, and traditional colors—to reinterpret them in a freer, more contemporary style. The series of ornaments illustrates this approach particularly well. The various designs can be mixed without striving for perfect symmetry, which gives the fir-tree more rhythm and personality.
The choice of mouth blown glass lends a visual lightness that contrasts with the boldness of the designs. The ornaments thus become small, suspended graphic objects, as interesting when viewed individually as when clustered on the branches.
Should you choose a single design or mix the eight models?
Both approaches work, but mixing them better expresses the identity of the Delight collection. The eight designs share a common graphic language that ensures the collection’s cohesion despite the diversity of the designs. You can alternate stripes, polka dots, stars, and geometric shapes to create a lively fir-tree, or repeat the same pattern if you’re looking for a more uniform look.
How should you arrange the green and red Delight ornaments on the Fir-tree?
The Delight ornaments come in green and red, allowing you to create a monochromatic display or mix the two colors to capture the classic Christmas color palette in a more graphic style. The green baubles can be paired with gold or white ornaments for a fresher look, while the red ones add more contrast. When combined on the same tree, the two colors create a richer composition while remaining cohesive thanks to the collection’s shared graphic style.
Are these ornaments also suitable for use outside the Fir-tree?
Yes. Their 9-cm diameter also allows them to be used in a decorative arrangement—hanging from a Branch, gathered in a Bowl, or incorporated into a table setting. Their intricate design ensures they remain visually striking even when removed from the Fir-tree’s branches.
Whether collected by design or gathered into a vibrant ensemble, the Delight ornaments transform Christmas decoration into a graphic playground. A joyful way to preserve the symbols of the holidays while giving them a decidedly contemporary style.
