Ferm Living Dou Table Lamp: Soft Light Shining Through Woven Rattan
The Dou table lamp by Ferm Living encapsulates the entire character of the collection in a compact 40-cm-tall design. Entirely covered in hand-woven natural rottan, it combines a slender base with a generously flared lampshade measuring 30.4 cm in diameter. This simple design fully showcases the material and its texture. Placed on a bedside table, console table, or end table, Dou adds a warm, graphic presence without overwhelming the space.
Light filtered as if through foliage
The Dou collection plays on the interplay between geometric shapes and organic materials. Here, the openwork weave allows small glimmers of light to pass through, animating the lamp’s surface and casting a soft glow around it. The rattan acts as a natural filter, creating a subtle interplay of transparency, shadow, and texture.
This deliberately subdued light gives the lamp a function that is as decorative as it is illuminating. It is particularly well-suited to moments of relaxation and more intimate atmospheres.
Is the Dou lamp handmade?
Yes. Woven rattan is hand-woven, which gives each lamp its own unique character. Slight variations in color or shape may occur from one piece to another. These variations are inherent to the craftsmanship and the nature of the material, and contribute to the piece’s authenticity.
What kind of light does the Dou lamp emit?
The Dou emits a soft, warm, and filtered light. Its openwork lampshade is not designed to produce strong, direct lighting, but rather to create an enveloping atmosphere. It is therefore particularly well-suited as an accent lamp in a bedroom or living room.
Can the Dou lamp be used on a bedside table?
Yes. At 40 cm tall and 30.4 cm in diameter, the Dou fits easily on a bedside table that’s wide enough. Its soft glow is well-suited for a bedroom when you’re looking for gentle lighting at the end of the day rather than highly focused reading light.
What kind of bulb should I use with the Dou lamp?
The lamp works with an E14 LED bulb of up to 12 W, not included. The product information indicates that it is equivalent to approximately a 75 W traditional incandescent bulb. To preserve the soft glow as it filters through the rattan, a bulb with a warm color temperature is particularly well-suited.
With its simple proportions, natural material, and lively weave, Dou adds a warm touch without being overly decorative. When lit, it reveals the full depth of the rattan and casts a soft light that naturally complements the quieter moments of the day.
