Launched in 2007, the ''Gli Specchi di Dioniso'' mirror collection was designed by Ettore Sottsass (1917 - 2007). The pieces come from the archives of the great Italian master, figurehead of anti-design and founder of the Memphis collective.
Gli Specchi di Dioniso mirrors come in a variety of shapes and colors: each member of this family has its own flamboyant personality. Playful and expressive, these mirrors feature all the characteristic elements of Sottsass's style: non-conformism, Toy with color, superimposition of simple geometric shapes, totemic silhouette.
Ettore Sottsass: ''Rarely in my professional life have I come across open-minded industrialists, capable of penetrating the complicated brain of a designer, capable of being patient even when a risk looms, even when the coexistence between design ideas and market demands becomes difficult. I've known only a few industrialists with these qualities, and among them I can include the Arosio family, owners of Glas Italia.
In his Gli Specchi di Dioniso mirror collection, Sottsass treats color as a material. He explains: ''Designing with color represents a complicated and at the same time liberating operation: it is possible to abandon the structures of Cartesian axes and pursue new structures dictated by color and a new dynamic. ''
The coloured frames of these mirrors are made from coloured laminated glass and lacquered glass.
