A Vallauris award-winner, Atelier Baptiste & Jaïna seduces and intrigues with the strange shapes of its ceramics, hybrid products of nature and art. Since 2017, the duo of plastic designers Baptiste Sevin and Jaïna Ennequin have succeeded in making their mark on the art market. Their creations are halfway between design and sculpture.
Their Ingres collection combines random anthropomorphic shapes with elementary geometric forms. The pieces in the Ingres collection are obtained by deforming volumes in plaster contained in balloons, these ultra-drawn forms are the result of an execution process that is both precise and completely random.
We're trying to blend strange organic shapes with archetypal objects, like the Vase and the Bowl," explains Baptiste. With this idea "that the object becomes the stand for a story", emphasizes Jaïna. Through their work on textures and reliefs, the designers also play on the indecision between nature and culture, as illustrated by the Ingres collection, which seems to be born of a natural mineralization process. The collection is conceived as a landscape through which the imagination sails. The domestic object becomes an evocative stand adorned with magical realism.
