Description
Dreaming big when it comes to design... Set with a pure "pop" focus, Alessi has taken it upon themselves to spark a playful rapport with its audience, by offering new uses for one of their flagship products: the iconic Juicy Salif citrus press designed by famous designer Philippe Starck in 1990. Exuberant and unepected, the Juicy Salif XXL takes the form of a giant figure, a design-sculpture, an interior object which will delight with its new scale. We've never seen a bigger icon! Alberto Alessi: Why produce the Juicy Salif citrus press in a format so resolutely out of proportion to its original function as a kitchen tool? Because it's equally invested in another function, if not more invested: a symbolic function. In other words and in its own way, it symbolises the truth of the object in our consumption-focused society: a "gadget" (as Jean Baudrillard defines it), cleared of all function, which may the try to "surpass the crisis surrounding purpose and utility in a playful fashion". This object has been designed for loves of design, who are looking for something playful, and who want to step into the shoes of Alice in Wonderful, in a world of oversized designer objects. It's for those wanting to create a wow-factor with a piece that eludes all conventions. Philippe Starck talks us through the Juicy Salif citrus press: "My citrus press isn't made to press lemons, it is made to start conversations". A pioneer of "democratic design", Philippe Starck never ceases to push limits and break codes, he is considered to be one of the most visionary designers in the world.
