Light and materiality resonate with Knit. This Pendant is characterized by the quality of the light emitted by its knitted textile Lampshade: a soft luminous effect that makes for a warm atmosphere. Knit bathes the surrounding space in a soft 360-degree glow. This Pendant illustrates the work of German designer Meike Harde, who is constantly exploring the fundamental properties and performance of materials. In the case of Knit, Harde was looking for a textile material capable of filtering light, while playing with tones and textures.
Knit's Lampshade is made of a ribbed 3D Lycra covering, using a technique known as "technical knitting", mainly used in sportswear. The elastic Lycra is ribbed. The darker, embossed threads are opaque, while the space between the ribs has been finely woven to let diffuse light filter through at 360°. The Knitting Fabric interferes with the light to create an intimate ambience, enhanced by the variation in density levels as the ribbed fabric stretches over the diffuser.
Even when switched off, the collection exudes a resolutely soothing presence: the material absorbs external light, while the roughness and irregularity of its surface amplify reflective diffusion and spread a sensation of warmth thanks to their tangibility. Knit's ribbed texture invites us to touch its surface, to feel its warmth.
The curvilinear silhouette reinvents traditional lamp design through contemporary craftsmanship and technical innovation.
Evoking intimacy and comfort, Pendant Knit creates a warm atmosphere in the home. Its pleasant texture complements natural materials such as wood, as well as large, deep sofas, soft rugs and thick curtains.
Designer Meike Harde: ''I started testing different types of knitted or woven Textile Mesh. I checked how the light passed through, whether there were any shadows. Whether the textile was matte or shiny. I wanted to bring Knitting to a wider audience and explore the possibilities it could offer. Light passes better where there's less density. The ribbing is denser, to bring out the color more. This is only possible with this special technique. The next step was to explore different shapes on which to place the Textile Cover. I decided to opt for classic or traditional shapes, transfigured in a contemporary style. Knit is designed in neutral Earth tones, because they interact beautifully with light. For me, this was fundamental from the outset. To create this kind of cozy, warm atmosphere through textiles. ''
