With the Look At Me 02 floor lamp, Bela Silva continues her exploration of ceramics in a light fixture designed to sit directly on the floor. Standing 100 cm tall with a diameter of 36 cm, it combines an enamelled sandstone base in blue-green with a cylindrical white cotton lampshade. The base, dense and deeply textured, gives the floor lamp an almost sculptural presence, while the Textile adds a softer touch. With its low, compact design, the Look At Me 02 fits easily into a living room, bedroom, or entryway.

Bela Silva: Ceramics as a Medium of Expression

Born in Lisbon, Bela Silva studied in Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States before developing an artistic practice deeply rooted in Ceramic. Her journey has taken her to various countries, and she now divides her time between Brussels and Lisbon. Ceramics remain at the heart of her work, which she approaches as an expressive, irregular, and almost living material.

A base sculpted like a living material

The enamelled sandstone base embodies the very essence of Look At Me. Bela Silva starts with a simple cylindrical form, which she covers with a dense, repetitive, almost architectural relief. The irregularities, indentations, and protrusions give the surface a sense of movement, echoing the energy of the plant world that inspires the collection. The blue-green glaze settles differently depending on the relief, accentuating its depth and creating darker shades in the hollows and brighter highlights on the protruding parts. Straddling the line between geometry and organic form, the base thus takes on the appearance of a true ceramic sculpture.

Where should you place a 100-cm floor lamp?

At 100 cm tall, the Look At Me 02 works particularly well next to a sofa or armchair, in a corner of the living room, or next to a low armchair. Its size is more compact than that of a traditional tall floor lamp, making it easy to incorporate into a room without overwhelming the space.

It can also be placed in an entryway or bedroom, where its sculptural base becomes a real visual focal point.

Is this floor lamp suitable as a reading lamp?

It’s better suited as accent lighting than as a focused reading lamp. Its 100-cm height and cylindrical lampshade diffuse soft light around the fixture, but its design doesn’t seem intended to direct the beam precisely toward a book or an Armchair.

I would therefore view it more as a low decorative floor lamp, intended to create a luminous presence and complement the room’s general lighting.

How does it differ from a large table lamp?

The main difference lies in its floor-standing design. At 100 cm tall, Look At Me 02 is designed as a true floor lamp, whereas a large table lamp can still be placed on a Dresser or Console. Here, the proportions are tailored for direct placement on the floor, which further enhances the sculptural presence of the Base.

How much space should you leave around the floor lamp?

Its 36-cm diameter remains relatively compact, making it easy to place near a sofa or in a corner. Above all, be sure to allow enough vertical space to let the Lampshade “breathe” visually. Its 250-cm cable also offers plenty of flexibility in positioning the lamp relative to the outlet.
