Released in 2000, the Mite floor lamp was the first joint project by Foscarini and designer Marc, who have since enjoyed a string of successes. It took two years of research and experimentation to develop the first Mite floor lamp. For the first time in the world, this luminaire combined Fibreglass with a carbon or Kevlar thread. This unprecedented combination of materials earned him the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award in 2001. Twenty years on, Foscarini has decided to celebrate this milestone with ''Mite Anniversario'': an evolution of the original concept through new experiments and variations.
Mite features an extraordinary mix of materials. A black carbon thread winds randomly across the height of the white fibreglass diffuser. The irregular interweaving of threads gives rise to a fascinating motif with an almost ethnic style. Light, material and color intermingle to create a powerful visual effect. The slender diffuser (H 185 cm) exploits the light source to its full height.
In the new Anniversario version, the dimensions of the diffuser are identical, but the black Carbon wire running through it is much thinner and mounted on a wider spiral that narrows as it converges towards the base. The original metal base has been replaced in this version by a superb black marble base. The new matte finish adds an elegant dimension to the Floor lamp.
On the technical side, the lighting has been improved by applying the latest innovations in the LED sector. A new LED Board system offers a wider distribution of light in the environment and a complete illumination of the diffuser to increase efficiency and reduce power consumption.
