Nessino Artemide, the iconic Mushroom Lamp

The Nessino Artemide lamp is an iconic Mushroom-shaped lamp of Italian design, directly inspired by the famous Nesso designed by Giancarlo Mattioli and the Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova. More compact than its predecessor, this designer table lamp retains its instantly recognizable organic silhouette: a flared central base topped by a wide, rounded shade.

In its black finish, the black Nessino makes a bold, elegant statement. Its deep color accentuates its curves and contrasts with its organic silhouette, a legacy of the 1960s. Both a light fixture and a decorative object, this black mushroom lamp adds a sculptural and contemporary touch to any interior.

When Industrial Innovation Becomes a Design Icon

Launched by Artemide in 2003, Nessino reinterprets the Nesso —created in 1967 by Giancarlo Mattioli and the Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova—in a compact format. The original design emerged at a time when injection-molded plastic was opening up new possibilities for designers.

With its corolla-shaped shade and flared central base, Nessino carries on this legacy of Italian design. Its mushroom shape and organic lines have stood the test of time without losing their uniqueness. This iconic lamp appeals to fans of vintage decor as well as enthusiasts of contemporary interiors.

Why is the Nessino called the “mushroom lamp”?

The Artemide Nessino lamp is often called a “mushroom lamp” because of its distinctive silhouette. Its flared central base supports a wide, rounded diffuser that naturally evokes the shape of a mushroom.

Inherited from the Nesso, designed in the 1960s, this organic silhouette has become one of the hallmarks of this Italian design classic. The Nessino is thus among the lamps that best embody the pop and sculptural aesthetic associated with the 1960s and 1970s.

Why buy an original Artemide Nessino lamp?

Choosing an original Artemide Nessino lamp allows you to enjoy the official edition produced by Artemide. The proportions, materials, and finishes remain true to the design that made Nessino a benchmark of Italian design.

The original edition also guarantees Artemide’s craftsmanship and lighting quality suitable for everyday use. More than just a table lamp, Nessino is a true design piece whose silhouette retains all its decorative appeal over the years.

A lamp that is as decorative as it is functional

Whether on or off, Nessino catches the eye with its soft, sculptural lines. Its shade accommodates four bulbs and produces light that is both direct and diffused, while minimizing glare. When lit, its wide upper section appears to float above the central base and casts an enveloping glow.

This Artemide table lamp fits easily into a living room, bedroom, or office. It can be used as a bedside lamp, desk lamp, or decorative lamp on a console table, dresser, or bookcase.

Its black finish accentuates the graphic nature of its curves. The black Nessino blends particularly well into a contemporary, minimalist, or eclectic interior, while retaining the vintage and pop references inherent in its design. Its dark hue reinforces its sculptural presence and transforms this mushroom-shaped lamp into a true decorative focal point.

Which Nessino lamp color should you choose?

All versions of the Nessino offer the same performance. The choice of color therefore depends primarily on the desired atmosphere.

• Black: Sleek and timeless, the black Nessino highlights the sculptural silhouette of this Mushroom lamp and blends easily into a contemporary interior.
• White: a bright, understated finish that highlights Nessino’s curves.
• Orange and Yellow: vibrant hues that fully capture the pop and vintage ’70s spirit of this Italian design icon.
• Red and Ruby Red: expressive shades that enhance Nessino’s decorative character.
• Klein blue, Green, and Light blue: on-trend colors that give Nessino a more expressive presence and add a graphic touch to the decor.

Are the bulbs in the Nessino lamp easy to replace?

Yes. Nessino uses four LED bulbs E14 rated at up to 6 W each; bulbs are not included. Unlike a fixture with built-in LEDs, the bulbs can be replaced individually when they reach the end of their lifespan.

This allows you to keep your lamp longer and choose the color temperature or light intensity that best suits your needs.

Where should you place the Nessino lamp?

With its compact dimensions of Ø 32 × H 22.3 cm, the Artemide Nessino table lamp fits easily on a bedside table, console table, sideboard, bookcase, or small desk.

In a vintage or ’70s-style interior, its mushroom-shaped silhouette creates a striking contrast with the black finish. In a more contemporary setting, the black Nessino enhances a minimalist, structured decoration thanks to its organic forms and deep color. Its soft light is perfect for moments of relaxation as well as for reading or working.
