Obello LED Lamp - Space Age heritage by Bill Curry
Designed in Los Angeles in 1971, the Obello Lamp embodies the technological optimism and formal freedom of the American West Coast. A key figure in mid-20th-century Californian design, Bill Curry translated the wonder of the atomic age and the conquest of space into objects with bold, clear lines.
A one-piece revolution
Curry is renowned for having developed the first "total look" lamps, designed as self-contained units. With the Obello LED Lamp, he eliminates the traditional separation between base and lampshade to create a unique volume in mouth-blown glass. Its Mushroom silhouette, inspired by pop culture and the race for space, becomes the ultimate synthesis of his streamlined approach to design. Although it remained a prototype and was never produced during the designer's lifetime, it is now being produced for the first time.
Nomadic light, contemporary technology
The result of a meticulous exploration of the archives, the Wireless rechargeable lamp was developed by GUBI with the agreement of the Curry family. Two integrated LED sources, one in the cap, the other in the Base, diffuse a homogeneous light adjustable to four intensities. After a 4.5-hour charge, the Obello offers 5 to 40 hours of autonomy. Splash-proof, it moves freely from inside to outside in dry weather.
A luminous palette
Soft yellows, Powder pinks, Pearly whites and Frosted Glass extend the original spirit with a contemporary expression. On a minimalist console or end table, the design lamp diffuses a soft, enveloping glow, both refined and playful.
