The Chromed steel structure creates a clean, luminous line. The seat and backrest in natural Wiener Straw, stretched over a solid wood frame, add warm depth and a homely feel. A folding revolution
When it was presented at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1967, the Plia chair was such a success that visitors left with the chairs on display, so much so that the stand had to be secured! Its three-disc swivel mechanism revolutionized use, earning Piretti the nickname of the Thonet of the 20th century. Once folded, the chair almost disappears, because in its polycarbonate version, it is completely transparent and just five centimetres thick. It was the first time transparency had been pushed to this level. A revolution comparable to the first iMac or Air Max.
From cult object to cultural icon
Exhibited in prestigious museums, Plia also won international awards, including the BIO5 at the Ljubljana Biennial in 1971 and the Gute Form in Germany in 1973. Its silhouette has even crossed the boundaries of design, reappearing in image and fashion, proving that a great classic can remain intensely desirable.
