Description
The Italian designer, Fabio Novembre loves to create items inspired by the architectural heritage of the region where he was born in Southern Italy. A kind of modern-day chalice, the Pumo container reproduces the particular shape of the traditional lucky-charm of the same name, originally from the Apulia region. "Il pumo" in Italian (or pine cone) is a flower bud, the symbol of a new life rooted in the ancient Apulia tradition. You generally place it at the end of balconies, columns, terraces and in pairs on the side of the bed of newly-weds to wish them happiness, prosperity and fertility. Every time that you cross the historic centre of an Apulia town, it is very likely that you will see them in the corner of balconies or entrances to houses. By celebrating this symbol of rural Italy, Fabio Novembre highlights the direct link which binds him to his region of origin. Fabio Novembre's creations are rooted in memory and collective imagination: these architectural elements on a reduced scale contain fragments of the past and they are steeped in mysteries and aesthetic suggestions...
