Alessi reissues some of Ettore Sottsass's finest creations from the Twergi collection. Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007), an influential master whose creations are exhibited in major design and contemporary art museums, is recognized worldwide as one of the great innovators of design and architecture in the second half of the 20th century.
The Wood creations in the Twergi collection are aimed at all design fans, all enthusiasts of one of the most influential masters of Italian design. Featuring Ettore Sottsass's typical superimposed colored volumes, this mill is a nod to fans of the designer's iconic "totems". A vibrant, sculptural object in turned Wood that eloquently expresses Sottsass's poetics. This small, colorful sculpture can be displayed on the table or work top.
The Twergi collection was born in 1989 out of a desire to revitalize the tradition of woodturning, an emblematic skill of Alessi's home region. Fascinated by the simplicity of the wood lathe, an ancestral craft machine, Ettore Sottsass drew inspiration from it to design the Twergi collection. The original colors are now joined by new chromatic combinations.
This Salt, Pepper & Spice mill is made in Italy from FSC-certified solid beechwood, using a partly hand-turned process. It is colored with water-based paints and is totally solvent-free.
Just a few turns of the wrist are all it takes to make your dishes sublime. The shape of the mill provides a firm, comfortable grip. The high-end Ceramic mechanism enables even very hard ingredients like salt crystals to be ground. Two wings at the base of the mill allow you to adjust the size of the grind.

The massive Dolomites, the trees with their splendid trunks topped by high canopies, the deep valley and the mountains above, in short, the sensation of the weight of nature and the landscape. I also had an impression of superposition, because light things are always in the air, heavy things are always down below. I've got into the habit of playing a child's Toy a lot, and realized it late in life: I always put one thing on top of another, even when I'm drawing. Almost all the objects I design have a Base, they don't touch the ground directly. As soon as you put a shape on a base, the shape immediately takes on importance, becomes stronger: it becomes a small monument. Your relationship is with a small monument. So you pay more attention.
