Kartell Savoia Chair: British precision meets Italian innovation

With Savoia, Kartell marks its first collaboration with Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby. The British design duo has created a chair that emphasizes visual lightness, precision, and clean lines. Its painted moulded aluminium frame features extremely slender, almost graphic legs, while the seat and backrest take on softer, slightly enveloping shapes. This balance between structural finesse and comfort gives Savoia a contemporary, understated look that fits easily around a table. Made in Italy, it is designed for both residential and professional use.

A chair designed as a continuous line

Savoia’s strength lies in the slenderness of its structure. Moulded aluminium allows for slim profiles while maintaining good strength. The legs rise toward the backrest in a continuous line, accentuating the lightness of the silhouette. In contrast, the seat and backrest feature softened contours, with a slightly recessed surface that enhances both visual comfort and ergonomics. The contrast between these two elements—one highly architectural, the other more fluid—gives the chair its distinctive character.

Is the Savoia chair comfortable for everyday use?

Yes. With a seat height of 46 cm, a wide backrest, and a slightly curved seat, the Savoia is well-suited for everyday use around a dining table. Its dimensions are compact— 45 cm wide by 51 cm deep—allowing you to place several chairs without visually overwhelming the space.

Can the Savoia chair be used outdoors?

Yes. This version of Savoia is designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Its painted aluminium frame and seat made of mineral-filled recycled Technopolymer are suitable for outdoor use and weather-resistant. It can therefore be easily moved from a dining room to a patio or an outdoor dining area.

Is the Savoia chair suitable for professional settings?

Yes. Its lightweight design, sturdiness, and versatility make it particularly well-suited for restaurants, hotels, offices, and reception areas. Its understated silhouette allows multiple chairs to be arranged around a table without creating a cluttered look. It works equally well in a residential setting as it does in a commercial project with a more architectural aesthetic.

What colors are available for the Savoia chair?

This version is available in Charcoal grey, Blue, Rusty, and Green. Charcoal grey accentuates its graphic and contemporary character. Blue adds a cooler, more sophisticated tone. Rusty instantly warms up the space, while Green works just as well in an interior as it does on a green terrace.

With Savoia, Barber & Osgerby have created a chair that doesn’t seek to make a spectacular statement. Its strength, on the contrary, lies in its precision, its finesse, and its ability to blend naturally into a wide variety of settings. Whether around a dining table, in a restaurant, or on a terrace, it brings a precise and contemporary presence without ever dominating the space.
