Savoia Dining Chair in Wood and Chrome: A Fusion of Oak and Polished Aluminium
With this version of Savoia, Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby explore a warmer, more refined interpretation of the armchair they designed for Kartell. The polished moulded aluminium frame creates a slender, luminous outline around the seat, while the light wood adds softness and a natural feel. The seat and backrest are made of 2D-curved plywood, veneered with reconstituted Nordic oak and finished with a matte coating. This contrast between glossy metal and matt metal gives the armchair a more sophisticated look, particularly well-suited to contemporary interiors.
A highly architectural contrast of materials
The strength of this version lies in the contrast between the reflective elegance of polished aluminium and the visual warmth of oak veneer. The metal emphasizes the continuous lines of the frame and armrests, while the wood softens the overall look with its more natural visual appeal. The slightly curved seat and backrest maintain very clean lines without detracting from the armchair’s lightness. This interplay of materials reinforces the Savoia’s architectural dimension while giving it a more residential and luxurious feel.
Is the Savoia wood armchair comfortable for dining?
Yes. With a seat height of 46 cm, a wide backrest, and armrests reaching 68 cm, Savoia provides a comfortable seating position for meals and extended periods spent at the table. The curved seat and backrest follow the contours of the body, while its dimensions— 56 cm wide and 51 cm deep— ensure balanced proportions.
Can this wood version be used outdoors?
No. This wood-and-chrome Savoia armchair is intended for indoor use only. Its oak veneer and polished aluminium frame make it ideal for a dining room, restaurant, hotel, or indoor reception area.
Which table pairs well with the Savoia wood and Chromed armchair?
This version pairs particularly well with a table featuring clean lines and contrasting materials. The light oak can create a sense of continuity with a wooden tabletop, while the polished aluminium provides a more contemporary contrast. Paired with a stone, glass, or matte-finished table, the glossy frame becomes a graphic detail that catches the light and visually lightens the overall look.
Is the Savoia armchair suitable for a high-end interior?
Yes. The combination of oak veneer, a matte finish, and polished aluminium gives this version a particularly refined character. It fits naturally into a contemporary dining room, an elegant restaurant, a hotel, or a reception area where the furniture must combine comfort, precision, and visual quality.
With its light wood and chromed frame, Savoia exudes warmth without losing the precision that defines the collection. The contrast of materials creates an elegant balance between nature and technology, making this armchair a discreet yet sophisticated presence around the table.
