CRÈME ATELIER Soft Serve Portable Wireless Lamp: Light in Freedom

With the Soft Serve Portable Lamp, CRÈME ATELIER brings one of its most recognizable signature designs to a portable format. This wireless rechargeable lamp features the soft, swirling curves inspired by soft-serve ice cream, with a compact silhouette designed to be easily moved around the home. Bookcase, bedside table, console table, dining table, or reading nook: its lack of cables offers flexibility and allows you to create a light source wherever an outlet isn’t available. Its dimensions— Ø 20.5 × H 23 cm —give it enough presence to serve as a true decorative object without cluttering the space.

A luminous sculpture with voluptuous lines

Soft Serve’s appeal lies as much in its light as in its design. Its form appears to have been captured in motion, forming generous curves that wrap around the light source. The ribbed surface further accentuates this sense of movement. The regular lines created by 3D printing follow the lamp’s shape and create a subtle texture that catches the light, even when the lamp is off.

This aesthetic gives the Soft Serve Portable a distinctive presence. In a minimalist decoration, it becomes a sculptural accent. In a more expressive interior, its fluid forms interact effortlessly with the materials, objects, and colors already present. The lamp thus functions as both a light source and a small signature piece, capable of drawing the eye with its form alone.

Color as a Decorative Signature

At Crème ATELIER, color never simply adorns the form. It plays a full part in the Lamp’s identity. Caramel, Olive, Cherry, Blueberry Sorbet, Lavender Sorbet, Limoncello, Peach, Pink, Matcha, or Wild Strawberry make up a palette inspired by the brand’s gourmet universe. Some finishes embrace a monochromatic look, while others pair a light-colored lampshade with a colored base. The Soft Serve Portable can thus be chosen as a subtle accent or, conversely, as a bold pop of color that instantly brings a table, shelf, or corner of a room to life.

The colors also enhance the perception of the lamp’s texture. The fine striations created by 3D printing catch the light differently depending on the shade and accentuate the lamp’s three-dimensional depth. A bright color enhances the model’s playful, pop-art character, while a softer shade further highlights its sculptural quality. This variety of finishes allows the lamp to completely transform its personality without altering its design.

Sustainable manufacturing designed in Stockholm

Each Soft Serve Portable is crafted in CRÈME ATELIER’s studio in Stockholm. For the Lampshade and Base, the brand uses 3D-printed recycled PLA, made primarily from cornstarch and Recycled Packaging. Additive manufacturing builds the object layer by layer, allowing the material to be applied with precision and minimizing waste generated during production.

This technology isn’t just about sustainability—it also defines the Lamp’s very aesthetic. The layers are intentionally left visible and become a design detail in their own right. The surface is therefore not perfectly smooth like that of conventional molded plastic. Instead, it features a uniform, tactile texture—a hallmark of CRÈME ATELIER’s identity.

A collection that has already made its mark in contemporary design

The Soft Serve design has already received several international accolades, including the 2024 German Design Award, the 2023 Scandinavian Design Awards, the 2022 Plaza Interiors Sustainability Award, and the 2024 Iconic Awards. It was also shortlisted for the 2023 Dezeen Awards.

This recognition reinforces the collection’s unique status. With its instantly recognizable shape, innovative manufacturing process, and highly distinctive color palette, Soft Serve has quickly established itself as one of the defining signatures of the emerging contemporary Scandinavian design scene.

How long does the Soft Serve Portable wireless lamp last on a single charge?

The Soft Serve Portable offers up to 10 hours of battery life when fully charged. It takes between 5 and 6 hours to charge. It comes with a 2-meter white textile-covered magnetic micro-USB cable, which makes it easy to recharge when the battery is empty. The internal battery and LED can also be replaced through CRÈME ATELIER, a real advantage for extending the Lamp’s lifespan.

Can you adjust the brightness of the Soft Serve Portable?

Yes. The lamp offers three brightness levels: 100%, 65%, and 35%. This range allows you to adjust the light depending on your needs. At full brightness, it provides lighting for dinner or illuminates a specific area more brightly. The intermediate levels create a softer light for a bedside table, a reading nook, or a more subdued atmosphere.

Where can you place a Soft Serve Portable wireless lamp?

Its cordless design allows it to be placed in many locations where a traditional light fixture would be impractical. On a bookcase or shelf, it serves as a small, sculptural light fixture. On a dining table, it creates a focal point of light without any visible cables. In a bedroom, it can complement a nightstand or a Chest of drawers. Its IP44 rating also allows you to take it outside occasionally in dry weather—for example, for a dinner party—but CRÈME ATELIER specifies that it must be kept and stored indoors.

What does the striated texture of the Soft Serve lamp mean?

The visible striations are a direct result of the 3D printing process. The material is deposited layer by layer, revealing fine, regular lines that follow the curves of the lamp. These are not defects. On the contrary, CRÈME ATELIER has turned this textured surface into a true aesthetic signature, one that accentuates the lamp’s form and gives it a presence quite different from that of a traditional plastic lampshade.

With the Soft Serve Portable, CRÈME ATELIER transforms the cordless lamp into a true decorative object. Its sculptural silhouette, appetizing colors, generous battery life, and adjustable brightness allow it to easily adapt to different uses and set different moods throughout the day. A small, expressive lamp, designed to bring light, color, and character to any interior.
