Imagined in 1962 by American designer Bill Curry, the Stemlite floor lamp marked a turning point in the history of lighting. Considered the first total-look lamp, it broke with the traditional structure of base and lampshade to create a unified, sculptural object. Reissued today by GUBI, this iconic floor lamp retains all the modernity that earned it the title of most influential lamp of the year by Industrial Design magazine in 1965. Its presence on the set of the original Star Trek series also helped to establish its silhouette in the visual imagination of the 20th century.
