Neo-Memphis... Highly acclaimed when it was presented at the ''Edit Napoli'' design fair in 2021, the Tagadà collection is signed by the Italian-Swedish studio Stamuli. These catoonesque pieces challenge the senses and perception through rigorous lines and sharp shades that plunge spaces into a parallel world, between dream, 3D and reality.

Stamuli's bold choice of vivid colors and graphic interactions was influenced by the Memphis movement and Studio Alchimia, a post-radical avant-garde group active in Milan in the 1970s. Nathalie du Pasquier's colorful geometric patterns are a further influence. The Tagadà collection is also inspired by the American artist Donald Judd and the Italian artist Franco Summa, notably the "Door Del Mare" (1993), an urban monument composed of giant, multicolored rectangles.

Highly graphic, these pieces treat color as a real material, using different strong colors to create effects of contrast and depth. Blocks of pure color come together, support each other, clash, forming chromatic micro-architectures.

The Tagadá collection in Stratified reinvents Italian Formica, the symbol of the Memphis movement. The Tagadà Chair is made from plywood sheets covered with colored stratified surfaces by the Italian company Abet Laminati. The laminate is meticulously hand-glued to the chair's structure. The laminates that make up the chair's surfaces meet with millimetre precision, never overlapping.

The use of Stratified was a spontaneous decision," explains Stamuli. ''We were looking for a material with a full, neat color, not tonal or shaded, but with its own identity. ''

Massive, rigorous forms with perfectly studied proportions trace clean, precise cuts in space.

The Tagadà furniture family sums up the essence of Stamuli's DNA: a mix of rationalism and playfulness, minimalism and irony.

Stamuli: "The aim of these objects is to be perceived as pure colors, in order to create dissonance with the neutral tones of a domestic environment and give the user the opportunity to escape from the ordinary."
