The Liar Wireless Rechargeable Lamp: Seletti’s Playful Take on Design
With The Liar, Seletti reinterprets one of the most famous figures in children’s literature through an object that is as unexpected as it is ingenious. Designed by Uto Balmoral, a leading figure in contemporary conceptual design, this creation playfully reimagines Pinocchio’s famous lie, transforming it into a light source. Straddling the line between a work of art, a pop Sculpture, and a wireless rechargeable lamp, The Liar captivates even before it’s turned on.
When Design Tells a Story
Rarely has a designer lamp embodied its concept so clearly. Depicted in his iconic outfit, Pinocchio seems caught red-handed. His oversized nose—the consequence of his little lies—serves here as the stand for the built-in LED light source. This brilliant idea alone encapsulates the full talent of Uto Balmoral, who is capable of transforming a universal icon into an object of desire. Crafted from multicoulered resin, the piece exudes a strong graphic presence that evokes contemporary art as much as the worlds of comics and pop culture.
A luminous presence full of character
The Liar isn’t meant to light up an entire room. Its role is far more alluring. It creates a presence, an emotion, a focal point in the Decoration. Thanks to its wireless operation and battery life of up to 30 hours, it can be displayed just as easily on a bookcase as on a console table or end table. In a child’s bedroom, it becomes an original Night Light that extends the world of Pinocchio and fuels the imagination at bedtime. In a living room, entryway, or bookcase, it catches the eye like a small luminous sculpture. A rechargeable mood lamp designed for those seeking more than just a source of light.
The collectible piece that defines an interior
Some pieces simply serve as decoration. Others reveal a personality. This Pinocchio lamp clearly belongs to the second category. It naturally finds its place in an arty, eclectic interior or one inspired by the world of collectors. Paired with graphic art, art books, or unusual objects, it instantly becomes a conversation starter. Where most light fixtures aim for discretion, The Liar elegantly embraces its eccentricity. It is precisely this creative freedom that makes Seletti’s designs unique and ensures their success among contemporary design enthusiasts.
At once a tribute to childhood, a cultural nod, and a creative manifesto, The Liar perfectly illustrates Seletti’s free-spirited and daring vision. A singular piece that does more than simply illuminate a space—it infuses it with spirit, emotion, and an irresistible dose of whimsy.
