Annebet Philips: Drawing Before Perfection

Based in Amsterdam, Annebet Philips has developed a playful, almost cartoon-like visual language, recognizable by its simple shapes and deliberately imperfect contours. For The Line-up, she starts with quick, hand-drawn sketches and strives to preserve their freshness when transferring them to Ceramic. Here, the line never strives for perfect regularity. On the contrary, it emphasizes the gesture, spontaneity, and energy of the original drawing.

The blue chosen for the collection evokes the famous Delft blue, but stripped of its traditional ornamental vocabulary. Annebet Philips retains only the graphic impact of blue against a white background, which she expresses through simple, broad, and irregular lines.
