Alessi Vite 6-Cup Italian espresso maker, the sculptural moka pot by Philippe Malouin
With Vite, Alessi reimagines the Italian espresso maker through the eyes of Philippe Malouin. Created in 2026, this 30 cl version can brew up to six cups of Mocha coffee. Its design combines a sculptural presence with a style suited to contemporary kitchens. The cast aluminium body is complemented by a magnetic steel base compatible with induction cooktops, while the thermoplastic resin handle and knob make it easy to use every day.
Industrial inspiration that gives meaning to form
The Vite project emerged from an experimental initiative by Philippe Malouin called “Scrapyard Works.” The designer draws inspiration from the world of metal workshops and mechanical parts to create a coffee maker whose silhouette appears to be the result of an industrial assembly. The ribbed body directly evokes a screw—a particularly apt reference for a Mocha pot whose opening and closing rely precisely on a screwing motion.
The name Vite, which means “screw” in Italian, encapsulates this convergence of function and design. Here, the mechanical reference serves more than just aesthetics; it expresses the very action required to use the coffee maker and gives the object an instantly recognizable identity.
The various finishes extend this industrial inspiration. Hot grey, Rusty, sage green, or steel paired with a bright green allow for variations in Vite’s character. Some versions embrace understated simplicity, while others accentuate its graphic and contemporary look.
Aluminium and induction combined in a single Mocha pot
One of the technical challenges of Vite lies in combining cast aluminium with induction cooking. The body retains the aluminum traditionally associated with the mocha pot, while a magnetic steel base allows it to be used on an induction cooktop. This design thus combines the material character of the Italian espresso maker with the features of modern kitchens.
The tubular handle made of thermoplastic resin complements this functional approach. Its design stands out visually from the metal body and provides a clearly identifiable grip when serving.
Philippe Malouin: Between Experimentation and Formal Simplicity
Based in London, Philippe Malouin’s work is characterized by experimentation with materials, processes, and basic forms. A former collaborator of Tom Dixon, he was named Designer of the Year by Wallpaper* in 2018. His creations frequently play with industrial references, which he transposes into household objects with bold geometries.
With Vite, this approach meets a true archetype of Italian cuisine. The Mocha pot retains its familiar function, but its appearance takes on a more radical dimension. Placed on a stone countertop, a metal shelf, or in a minimalist kitchen, it becomes an object you’ll want to use just as much as you’ll want to display.
How many cups of coffee can you make with the Vite 6-cup coffee maker?
The Vite 6-cup coffee maker has a capacity of 30 cl. It can brew up to six small cups of moka-style coffee, making it particularly well-suited for breakfast, a coffee shared with family, or at the end of a meal with several guests.
Does the Vite coffee maker work on an induction cooktop?
Yes. The Vite has a magnetic steel base that’s compatible with induction cooktops. It can therefore be used on an induction cooktop while retaining its cast aluminium body.
What are the dimensions of the Vite 6-cup coffee maker?
This version is 20.5 cm tall and measures approximately 12 × 17 cm. It remains relatively compact despite its 30 cl capacity, making it easy to keep within reach on a countertop.
Which color should you choose for the Vite coffee maker?
The choice depends on the look you’re going for in your kitchen. Hot grey offers an understated, mineral-like look. Rust reinforces the model’s industrial inspiration. Sage green brings a softer presence, while the combination of steel and bright green creates a more contrasting aesthetic.
With Vite, Philippe Malouin gives the moka pot a new personality. In this 6-cup version, it also becomes a symbol of togetherness, designed to accompany shared cups of coffee and leisurely breakfasts. A functional and expressive piece that naturally finds its place in the kitchen.
