Inflated design! The Zodiac mirror's frame is made up of two oblong struts, reminiscent of the inflatable boat whose name it bears. At first glance, the frame appears to be made of a flexible material, like inflated plastic. In reality, it's made of rigid Ceramic: a stunning visual effect! The Zodiac Mirror Frame appears complete thanks to the inverted reflection of one half of its Ring on the mirror surface. The Zodiac mirror uses its reflective surface to complete the "coil" of which it is made. Zodiac is an object to look at and touch, to fully appreciate the exceptional Toy of materials.

This "Bumper" version has a reflective metallic surface that gives it a very different materiality from its black or white predecessors. While the former were designed to imitate as realistically as possible the inflatable structure of the boat that bears the same name and the nautical codes attached to it, the Zodiac Bumpers, the Zodiac Bumper succeeds instead in creating a striking ambiguity about the material of which it is made, and even in corrupting our perception.

Always made in Ceramic, its Matallic enamel finish is sprayed on in successive coats, and the Zodiac Bumper is fired 3 times before revealing its effect.

The Zodiac mirror is destabilizing: you immediately wonder what material it's made from. Zodiac is a perfect illustration of the work of French designer Jean-Baptiste Fastrez. For him, objects must have character and provoke astonishment, even if it means disturbance.

A graduate of Ensci (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle), Jean-Baptiste Fastrez took his first steps under the direction of François Azambourg, then the Bouroullec brothers. Since then, he's been creating his own hybrid, ultra-creative style!
