Description
In 1948, Robin Day won first place in the International Low-Cost Furniture Competition at New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The competition aimed to explore the potential of affordable Molded plywood in the construction of low-cost furniture suitable for compact living spaces. Thanks to this award, Robin Day became well known and received numerous commissions. Among them, Hillestak: a series of furniture for the British company Hille, which included his first Stacking chair. Reissued and renamed Daystak, this series includes a chair and a Desk that work in perfect harmony. These pieces demonstrate Robin Day's ability to marry form and utility.
Stackable, handy and compact, the Daystack chair and desk have been an incredible success. They were manufactured in large quantities and used in schools, canteens and church halls, as well as in domestic spaces.
The Daystack chair and Desk feature an "A" shaped leg. These pieces illustrate the designer's passion for craftsmanship. The complex construction belies the visual simplicity and minimalist silhouette.
