Flowerpot VP12 Floor Lamp: Verner Panton’s Iconic Design Takes on a New Height

Created in 1969, the Flowerpot VP12 floor lamp captures Verner Panton ’s pop and visionary spirit in a vertical silhouette standing 122 cm tall. It features the instantly recognizable design language of the Flowerpot collection—with its rounded shapes and interlocking domes—extended here by a slender chromed steel stem. More than just a light source, this floor lamp adds a graphic presence to the space while diffusing indirect light designed for visual comfort.

The Flowerpot Takes on a New Height

The Flowerpot VP12 transposes the collection’s iconic design into a floor lamp format. The two steel hemispheres characteristic of Flowerpot are supported here by a slender chromed steel stem, creating a vertical silhouette 122 cm tall. This new scale preserves the Flowerpot’s instantly recognizable graphic identity while giving the fixture a more architectural presence in the room.

This design extends the aesthetic language of Verner Panton, a leading figure in 20th-century Danish design. Trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, the designer distinguished himself through his bold exploration of form, color, and space. With its round, simple, and playful shapes, Flowerpot embodies this free and expressive approach to design.

Soft light for reading and relaxing

The Flowerpot VP12 emits indirect, functional, and glare-free light. Its design conceals the light source to minimize glare. The lower dome creates a controlled shadow, while the upper section acts as an upward-facing Reflector.

This soft light makes it a floor lamp particularly well-suited for moments of relaxation. Placed near an armchair or sofa, it provides reading light while contributing to the room’s ambient lighting.

Why invest in a design icon like the Flowerpot?

Choosing the Flowerpot VP12 means bringing Verner Panton’s iconic 1969 design into your home. Its geometry, based on two hemispheres, and its expressive use of color are hallmarks of the Danish designer’s work. Far from following a passing trend, its silhouette has stood the test of time, allowing it to serve as both a lighting fixture and a statement piece in any Decoration.

How does the Flowerpot VP12 floor lamp provide light?

The Flowerpot VP12 produces indirect, soft, and glare-free light. The light source is concealed by the domes. The lower dome creates a controlled shadow, while the upper dome acts as a Reflector and directs the light upward. This design creates comfortable lighting that is particularly pleasant near a sofa or armchair.

Does the Flowerpot VP12 provide enough light for a room?

The Flowerpot VP12 is primarily suited for accent and mood lighting rather than general lighting in a large room. Its indirect light is particularly well-suited for a reading nook, the area near a sofa, or any space you wish to illuminate softly. It works with an E27 bulb rated up to 40 W, not included. To evenly light a large room, it’s best to pair it with other light sources.

Where should you place the Flowerpot VP12 in a living room?

The Flowerpot VP12 is particularly well-suited for placement near a sofa or Armchair. Its height of 122 cm and compact footprint allow you to create a well-lit area without taking up much floor space. It can thus complement a reading nook, accent the end of a sofa, or add a graphic touch to a corner of the living room.

With its slender silhouette and instantly recognizable domes, Verner Panton’s Flowerpot VP12 brings much more than just accent lighting to any interior. Whether placed near an armchair or in the heart of the living room, it creates that signature Flowerpot interplay of color, light, and geometry. A lighting icon that continues to bring the boldness of its 1969 design to life.
