Flowerpot VP4 Table lamp metal purple / H 36 cm - By Verner Panton, 1968

Flowerpot VP4 Table Lamp: Verner Panton’s Iconic Design at Your Fingertips

Created in 1968, the Flowerpot VP4 table lamp captures Verner Panton’s pop spirit in a 36-cm-tall design. Two round domes, a slender chromed steel base, and a wide range of colors are all it takes to create its instantly recognizable silhouette. More compact than a pendant or a floor lamp, it allows you to place this design icon on a piece of furniture, bringing it closer to everyday use.

Two Domes That Have Become a Signature

The design of the Flowerpot VP4 is based on the precise interlocking of two steel hemispheres. This basic geometry reflects the approach of Verner Panton, a leading figure in 20th-century Scandinavian design known for his formal freedom and his penchant for immersive interiors. With its rounded forms and expressive character, the Flowerpot retains this visual identity, which remains closely associated with the Danish designer.

Comfortable and Controlled Lighting

The lamp’s shape directly contributes to its comfortable lighting. The light source is concealed to minimize glare. The lower dome casts a downward shadow, while the upper part acts as an upward-facing Reflector. The VP4 thus emits indirect, functional, and glare-free light, ideal for everyday task lighting.

Where to place a Flowerpot VP4 lamp?

The Flowerpot VP4 can be easily placed on a console, a desk, or a bedside table. With a diameter of 23 cm and a height of 36 cm, it remains compact enough to sit on a piece of furniture without taking up too much space. In a living room, it adds a touch of style to a Console table or accent piece. In a bedroom, it complements the nightstand. On a desk, it provides supplementary lighting and a striking visual element.

Does the Flowerpot VP4 provide enough light for working or reading?

The Flowerpot VP4 is designed first and foremost as an accent lamp providing indirect light. Its design conceals the light source to ensure visual comfort and diffuses the light through its two domes. It can be used for reading or to supplement desk lighting, but is not intended as a directional task lamp. It uses an E27 bulb with a maximum wattage of 40 W, not included.

Which Flowerpot VP4 color should you choose?

The Flowerpot’s extensive color palette allows you to choose between blending in and creating contrast. A subdued shade emphasizes the lamp’s curves and makes it easier to coordinate with existing furniture. A more expressive color, on the other hand, turns the VP4 into a true decorative accent, true to the bold approach to color that characterizes Verner Panton’s world.

Is the Flowerpot VP4 suitable as a bedside lamp?

Yes, its compact size and indirect lighting make it ideal for use as a bedside lamp. Its height of 36 cm and diameter of 23 cm are well-suited for placement near the bed, while the switch on the Cable allows for easy control of the light. Its 200-cm Textile cable also offers some flexibility for reaching a nearby outlet.

Placed on a console table, nightstand, or side table, Verner Panton’s Flowerpot VP4 adds a unique touch to small everyday spaces. Its size allows you to fully experiment with color and display this iconic design piece where it can be appreciated up close.
