From Folded Paper to Steel

Behind Folded’s apparent simplicity lies a true feat of design. Its steel components are laser-cut and then folded to create the clean lines that define its silhouette. Its powder-coated finish accentuates this geometric design and gives it its contemporary character.

The project emerged from a dialogue between Johan van Hengel and Muuto centered on the Folded shelving units. The designer wanted to extend their formal language to new types of furniture. The idea of a piece of furniture incorporating these folded shapes gradually evolved into a Dresser. Like the shelves in the collection, Folded plays with the way objects are displayed and organized thanks to its built-in storage.

With its compact dimensions of W 37.4 x D 37.2 x H 61.5 cm, this mobile steel dresser offers ample storage without cluttering the room. Its top tray holds items you want to keep readily accessible. Its two open compartments allow you to organize books, magazines, tableware, or accessories while maintaining the piece’s light, airy visual appeal.

Mobility is an integral part of its design. The four casters make it easy to move Folded around, while the four included interchangeable bases allow you to set it up as a stationary piece. The casters are made from 100% post-industrial recycled plastic. Both the casters and bases can be removed.
