Folded Low Rolling Dresser: Open, Portable Storage

Compact, sleek, and clever, Muuto’s Folded Low rolling side table transforms everyday storage into a decorative element. Johan van Hengel translates the visual language of folded paper into a steel plate with clean lines. Its top tray and two open compartments let you store, display, and keep your essentials within easy reach. Thanks to its Caster and compact size, Folded easily moves from the living room to the bedroom, from the entryway to the kitchen or Desk.

From Folded Paper to Steel

Behind Folded’s apparent simplicity lies a true feat of design. Its steel components are laser-cut and then folded to create the clean lines that define its silhouette. Its powder-coated finish accentuates this geometric design and gives it its contemporary character.

The project emerged from a dialogue between Johan van Hengel and Muuto regarding the Folded shelving units. The designer wanted to extend their formal language to new types of furniture. The idea of a piece of furniture featuring these folded shapes gradually evolved into a Dresser. Like the shelves in the collection, Folded plays with the way objects are displayed and organized thanks to its built-in storage.

Everything within reach

With its compact dimensions of W 37.4 x D 37.2 x H 61.5 cm, this mobile steel dresser offers ample storage without cluttering the room. Its top tray holds items you want to keep within easy reach. Its two open compartments allow you to organize books, magazines, tableware, or accessories while maintaining the piece’s light, airy visual appeal.

Mobility is an integral part of its design. The four casters make it easy to move Folded around, while the four included interchangeable bases allow you to set it up as a stationary piece. The casters are made from 100% post-industrial recycled plastic. Both the casters and bases can be removed.

Where can you use the Folded dresser?

The Folded dresser can fit into almost any room in the house. In the living room, it serves as a coffee table, a small bookcase, or a side bar for holding bottles and glasses. In the bedroom, its compact size makes it ideal as a bedside table. In the entryway, its compartments hold everyday essentials. In the kitchen, it transforms into a rolling dresser for dishes, bottles, or kitchen accessories. Placed near a desk, it offers mobile storage for documents and office supplies. Its versatility allows you to assign it a new function as needed.

Can Folded be used without its casters?

Yes, Folded can be used with its four Casters or with the four interchangeable bases included. The Casters make it easy to move and allow you to take the piece from one space to another. The bases are better suited for a permanent setup. Both systems are removable, making it easy to change the configuration as its use or location changes.

Is this dresser suitable for a professional setting?

Yes, Folded was designed for both residential and professional spaces. Its compact and mobile design allows it to be placed near a workspace to keep documents, books, and accessories within easy reach. It’s also well-suited for shared spaces where the layout changes regularly. Its minimalist design offers a more decorative alternative to traditional office storage furniture.

In the living room today, next to the bed tomorrow— Muuto’s Folded Low adapts to how it’s used rather than dictating its use. Whether used as a bedside table, bar, end table, kitchen dresser, or office storage unit, its open structure invites everyone to make it their own. A compact piece of furniture that easily finds its place—and just as naturally changes it.
