Johan van Hengel translates the visual language of folded paper into a steel plate with clean lines. The Fold as a Guiding Principle

The silhouette of Folded is based on the precise shaping of steel. The various components are laser-cut and then folded to create the geometric lines that give the piece its structure. Its powder-coated finish enhances its clean, contemporary look while allowing the material’s natural texture to shine through.

The project builds on the work Johan van Hengel did with Muuto on the Folded shelving units. The designer wanted to explore this same language of folded forms through a new type of furniture. The idea of a piece of furniture naturally evolved into a mobile dresser, still designed with a focus on how objects can be organized, displayed, and kept accessible.

More storage, less floor space

Measuring 37.4 L x 37.2 D x 83.7 H cm, the Folded Tall mobile dresser offers ample storage space while taking up minimal floor space. Its three open compartments hold books, accessories, tableware, or everyday items, while the top tray can serve as a place to set things down or display items. This vertical organization makes it easier to achieve storage in spaces where every centimeter counts.

The four casters make it easy to move the unit as needed. They can be replaced with the four included interchangeable bases for a stationary setup. The casters are made from 100% post-industrial recycled plastic, and both systems can be disassembled.
