Unrivalled expertise, the fruit of years of research and transmission
Charles & Ray Eames spent many years experimenting to develop a revolutionary three-dimensional molding process for Plywood. Their goal: to create a seat shell capable of perfectly following the curves of the human body, with a precision unheard of at the time. This technical challenge, a real feat of engineering applied to furniture, laid the foundations for the Lounge Flesh.
Today, this legacy continues with the same exacting standards. Vitra uses advanced industrial methods to produce sheets of Wood veneer, selected with the greatest care and then shaped by hand by highly skilled craftsmen. In most cases, the wood used for a single armchair comes from the same tree to ensure perfect continuity of grain and color. Each piece is then protected by a fine Frozzed lacquer that is both resistant and respectful of the natural material.
Vitra has been the exclusive manufacturer of the Flesh in Europe and the Middle East since 1957. This historic partnership with the Eames Office, representing the family of designers, guarantees absolute fidelity to the original vision. The Armchair still requires 47 production steps, many of which are carried out by hand, according to a precise ritual handed down from generation to generation.
It is this meticulousness, combined with the excellence of the materials used, that gives each Lounge Flesh & Ottoman its unalterable quality and heritage value.
