With Maap 3, Erwan Bouroullec takes the idea of lighting as a living landscape a step further. This immense luminous surface transforms the wall into an immersive sculptural presence, thanks to a material that can be shaped directly by hand. Somewhere between an artistic installation and a monumental luminaire, Maap reinvents the way we inhabit light.
A living material shaped by gesture
This designer wall light features a giant paper-effect Tyvek diffuser and three black steel light units with a total of twelve LED bulbs (four bulbs per unit). Resembling a monumental crumpled sheet of paper, Tyvek has a delicate, yet extremely hard-wearing and tear-proof appearance. The user shapes the surface to create reliefs, folds and organic volumes. Each composition becomes totally unique. With its spectacular 320 x 155 cm format, Maap transforms the wall into an immense luminous Cloud with wabi-sabi and experimental accents.
Immersive light as environment
Unlike a conventional wall light, the large Maap Wall light diffuses a soft, enveloping clarity that seems to emerge from the entire surface. The light never emanates from a single point, but spreads evenly across the space to create an almost architectural feel. This immersive luminous presence is perfectly suited to a vast contemporary lounge, a gallery, a confidential hotel or a minimalist space with generous volumes. Black magnetic buttons, called Dots, hold the diffuser in place while allowing the composition to be continually reshaped.
The Bouroullec world of art and experimentation
With its moving forms evoking an abstract map, a mineral landscape or an enlarged cellular structure, the sculptural Maap wall lamp goes far beyond the codes of traditional decorative lighting. It dialogues magnificently with raw concrete, textured materials, dark wood or ultra-contemporary architecture. Few lighting creations today offer such a level of interaction between object, space and designer.
At the frontier between light sculpture and interior architecture, Maap 3 transforms light into a sensitive material. A spectacular presence that inhabits the wall with power and poetry.
